FAQs1) What is the best age to start piano instruction?
Scientists speak of an ideal age 'window' of between about five and eleven or twelve. We have had very good results with students between five and eight. Again, individuals will and do vary. The youngest age we have taught so far has been three. The oldest was 71. 2) Can a keyboard substitute for a piano? Yes and No - it ultimately depends on what you want to do with the instrument. For learning, a piano is more responsive to touch and has much more resonance. An inexpensive piano is often better than a moderately - priced keyboard. If you have to go with a keyboard then it should be touch-sensitive, have a full-length keyboard (88 keys), and hopefully have at least one pedal. 3) What styles do you teach? We can handle any style but believe that it is unwise for students in the early grades (especially children) to specialize in any particular style. A greater depth of understanding and appreciation comes from exposure to as many different styles and genres as possible. 4) How much do you charge? We do not publish our fee schedule but can say that it is competitive based on periodic local market research. We offer a complimentary interview which may include a sample lesson if you'd like. |
